Ice Hotel Gotham on Ice

At A Glance

World's Largest ICEHOTEL.

Each year the internationally renowned ICEHOTEL, located above the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland, becomes a platform for contemporary ephemeral art. Artists from around the globe compete to design and construct ICEHOTEL’s Art & Design Suites. This year one of our clients Dennis Rolland along with Andre Landeros Michel has been selected for their "Gotham on Ice" entry. Their winning proposal offered nuances of Manhattan’s glittering skyline, Cole Porter’s sultry tunes, and a spark of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Dennis Rolland is an accomplished interior with a celebrity following and Andre Landeros is an independent creative director with a visionary apporach.

Located in Jukkasjärv, Sweden and celebrating its 20th anniversary, ICEHOTEL is the world’s largest hotel made of ice and show. The 5,500 square meter complex includes an Ice church and an Icebar. It is constructed anew every November-December and melts in April-May. This winter season ICEHOTEL is open December 10, 2009-April 18, 2010.

Ice Hotel Experience

Day 1
Arrival with SAS to Kiruna airport.
A short walk to the airport cabin where you will get winter
clothes such as snowmobile suite, mittens and snowmobile
boots. Your luggage will be transported separately to
Ice Hotel.

Outside the dogsleds are waiting. At a distance you can
hear the huskies barking and howling. The sounds get
louder as you get nearer. The dogs are keen to get going.
As you depart they quiet down and soon the only
sound you hear is from their paws against the snow, and the dogsled drivers commands.

Arrival in the small village of Jukkasjärvi which is beautifully situated by the Torne River. The history of Jukkasjärvi (the name Jukkasjärvi means meeting place) goes back to the 17th century when it was a market and meeting place for the Laplanders, settlers and hunters in the area.

A short walk will take you to the worlds largest hotel of snow and ice, Ice Hotel, where you will get a guided tour which includes a chapel where services such as weddings and christenings take place.

Its time for check in where all the beautifully appointed  rooms and suites contain sculptures made of snow and ice. The heart and backbone is the River Torne flowing freely through the unspoilt wilderness. Covered with a meter of thick ice during the winter the river is the source of all art, architecture and design. The pure water and the steady movement of the river create the clearest ice possible.

Ice Hotel's Absolute Icebar, a place where all your senses are touched and warm lips leave impressions on the ice glasses, created from the pure ice of the Torne River.

7 pm
Transfer to the Esrange Space Center where a short movie of Esrange is shown following by a guided tour of the premises. Then its on to our camp on beautiful Lake Salmijärvi in time for an intimate dinner where you will experience a three course meal with local delicacies and inspired by local flavours.

While dining you can view the stars and easily find your favourite constellation. Luckily you'll also enjoy the experience of watching the northern lights play. After dinner we transport you back to Ice Hotel.
