Vedema Resort is the resort you should be staying at If you’re looking to get away from it all on the island of Santorini. It was once a winery but now Vedema Resort, located in the town of Megalohori, is a self contained luxury five star hotel that is certainly world class. Celebrities that don’t want to be discovered are likely to stay here when they visit Santorini.
Vedema Resort has an inviting contemporary look that blends well with the traditional whitewashed architecture popular on the island. Set within brushed stucco walls and dotted with graceful flower-filled sculpture gardens, the villas and neoclassical house is a postcard of Greek luxury. The sapphire-blue and rust-red domes of nearby churches peek over the walls with charming results.
Guests at Vedema Resort enjoy welcome drinks at reception followed by a tour of the grounds. The outstanding feature is the Vinsanto Gourmet Restaurant and Lounge, entered through a torchlit sunken courtyard. The dining room resembles an elegant medieval hall with barrel vaults, heavy tables, candlelight and an excellent menu. Next door in the similarly appointed Canava wine cellar guests can sample the three Cs: champagne, caviar and Cuban cigars. Wine tastings are held five days a week.
A second restaurant and a bar at Vedema Resort serve less grand fare by the pool. American buffet-style breakfast is offered 8-10:30 am. The shuttle makes four trips a day to a private black-sand beach 3 kms away, where water sports and sun beds are available.
The recently upgraded Vedema Resort’s health facilities hidden in the old cellars include a Cybex-equipped gym, sauna, steam bath, and spa with health and beauty treatments—also for couples.
Complimentary airport and port transfers are provided at Vedema Resort and the resort can also arrange private helicopter and aircraft rentals.
The newly refurbished accommodations at Vedema Resort are in Mediterranean-style villas, with one, two or three bedrooms. The once colorful walls are now painted in white, with purple or turquoise sofas and bedspreads adding splashes of color. Dining and seating areas come standard, along with air-conditioning, regional art, cordless phones, TVs, safes, minibars, and marble baths with robes, double sinks, hair dryers and most offer separate shower stalls.
At Vedema Resort, those with privacy at the top of the list can book the glamorous Olympian Villa or the even grander three-bedroom Presidential Villa, both with private pools and large living rooms perfect for lounging.
Housekeeping is twice daily, room service runs from 8 am-midnight, and most guests are American. This April-October resort is isolated and best suited for discerning high-end travelers that relish fine food and refined leisure.
