The Widder Hotel
The Widder Hotel is a formidable designer hotel located in the heart of the Augistiner quarter and famed shopping streets of downtown Zürich, Switzerland. It is a hotel for furniture aficionados as every piece of modern fixture is by the biggest names in design and architecture including Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe and Frank Lloyd Wright.
Eight historic townhouses were refurbished to create a distinctive style where guests can discover the new in the old, and the old in the new. A contrast of textures and structures from different eras creates the leitmotif and unique counterpoints that runs through the hotel.
Each of the 42 guestrooms and 7 suites are individually styled with ultramodern see-through elevators whisking guests to their rooms. Several rooms boast second-floor landings (such as 404) that provide seating areas suspended above the beds. All rooms furnish dual-line phones with data ports and voice mail, Bang and Olufsen flat-screen TVs, CD players, high-speed Internet access (both wired and wireless for a fee), minibars, air-conditioning, safes programmed to open with the guest's credit card, fax machines with private numbers, and ashtrays that have "Stolen at Widder Hotel" printed on their bottoms.
Aglow with trendy halogen lighting, the restaurant is in a simple, country-style setting and features traditional Zurich and international recipes like those at the famed Widder Restaurant. Regional meals are also the food of choice in the Zur Schtund, and outdoor seating provides a dreamy environment for dining in season.
