The Pierre A Taj Hotel

Overlooking Central Park from East 61st Street, the Pierre Hotel sets a high standard of extravagance, even in New York City, a place where luxury comes as second nature. Boasting an impressive ratio of three staff members for each guest, The Pierre Hotel seamlessly takes care of guests’ every whim with ease and aplomb.  Already a force to be reckoned with in the landscape of luxury New York hotels, a $100 million renovation this summer has put the Pierre Hotel over the edge and into the top echelon of places to stay in Manhattan.  The renovation now complete, The Pierre reopened its opulent doors this summer and eagerly awaits your arrival.

The Pierre accommodations are decorated in soft neutral tones of pale ivory, taupe, and coral, all of which are contrasted with rich woods and tufted leather headboards and benches. The spacious Turkish marble bathrooms house floor-to-ceiling glass-walled showers with oversized showerheads and multiple jet sprays, plus a large marble-clad soaking tub. Here, you will find a wide array of Molton Brown bath products. The splendidly upholstered room itself features pillows, upholstery, drapes, and bed throws made with richly textured silk and brocade fabrics. Guests will enjoy the 40’ wall-mounted flat screen HD TV and the top of the line Bose Wave studio stereo complete with iPod docking station. The larger suites feature elegant fireplaces trimmed with custom millwork that matches the striking crown moldings and window frames, and is surrounded by romantic white pillar candles.  The largest accommodations, The Grand Suites, feature all of these amenities plus large, landscaped, private terraces.

The rooms are tranquil in and of themselves, but we also recommend a trip to the Pierre’s on-site Jiva Spas; The Dominique Salon and The Rene Salon. These two spas offer a range of lavish treatments, like massages, facials, and body and beauty treatments. The Pierre also features a state-of-the-art fitness center, which is complementary to all guests. Open 24-hours a day, this gym features both cardio equipment and weight-training machines, and personal training is available. Between the two spas and the fitness center, you’re bound to leave the Pierre feeling both refreshed and rejuvenated.

Ideally situated on East 61st street and Fifth Avenue, the Pierre Hotel puts you in prime position to take advantage of two of the world’s premier shopping strips, Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue. Fifth Avenue is the home of the flagship stores of some of fashion’s most lauded names, like Gucci, Prada, and Louis Vuitton. Be sure to check out Bergdorf Goodman, the place where New York’s elite go to shop.  Madison Avenue is home to illustrious designer stores like Dolce and Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Roberto Cavalli, and many more. And if you still haven’t had enough shopping, the ritzy Park Avenue is just one more block away.

Directly across the street from the hotel, the verdant Central Park serves as The Pierre’s front yard. This is the world’s most famous urban park, and you can explore it for hours, even days. It offers opportunities to jog, hike, horseback ride, ice skate, boat, play croquet or tennis, enjoy free outdoor music, or just enjoy this sanctuary of nature in the midst of Manhattan. Within just a fifteen minute walk of The Pierre, you will find NYC   landmarks like The Museum of Modern Art, The Natural History Museum, Rockefeller Center, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Radio City Music Hall.

It's not about the food and definitely more about the scene at this restaurant that's one block from the Pierre Hotel. It seems like anyone getting off an International flight heads here immediately if they can afford it.  Even a bowl of pasta is a small fortune. However, no one dining here seems to mind and your almost guaranteed to spot a Movie Star or some other celebrity.

Match65 is just about a six minute walk from The Pierre.  Wonderful French bistro food is just as good on this side of the Atlantic. Great value and very good "upper East Side" local people watching.

Just about one of New York's hotest restaurant at this moment is about a 8 to 10 minute walk from the Pierre. The food, ambiance and service is all excellent.  Michelin gave it 2 stars.

Fishtail by David Burke

Fishtail by David Burke is about a 6 minute walk from the Pierre. The restaurant is good with reasonable prices. On Sunday they offer a $35.00 lobster pre fixe dinner.

JoJo is about a 9 minute walk (a little far but worth it) from the Pierre. The neighborhood standby has been around for 20 years and still attracts a savvy New York crowd..  Great contemporary French cuisine.  Try it for Saturday & Sunday brunch.

New York upper east side Chinese food does not get much better! Chinese food on Sunday night is a New York tradition (or maybe Jewish?) and here it's even more special. Philippe is only a three minute walk from the Pierre.
