The Goring
For four generations, the Goring family has harmonized traditional standards of hotel-keeping with progressive management. The result is The Goring, a distinctly British, deluxe haven in central London and ultra refined Belgravia. The striking five-story Victorian hotel is conveniently located between Buckingham Palace and Victoria Station.
Each of the 74 guestrooms is individually designed and decorated (most returning guests have a favorite). Bath aficionados might choose Room 114 for its whirlpool tub under an octagonal cupola. A handful of rear units overlook the gardens, but the three Splendid Balcony rooms, each with a furnished garden-view balcony, are the most difficult to book. (Ask for upgrades, as they are routinely given when possible.) Shoes left in the hallway return gleaming with polish in the morning.
The cream-toned dining room serves English classics like roast, the best end of English lamb, grilled calf's liver with sweet-cured suffolk bacon, and the Dover sole perfectly cooked, complemented with a superb wine list.
