Park Hyatt Mendoza
Park Hyatt Mendoza is located in front of the Plaza Independencia, a popular historical landmark in the city of Mendoza in Argentina. Hyatt Hotels & Resorts restored the original façade of the Plaza Hotel, a 19th century Spanish colonial structure that, together with the adjacent city theatre, maintains an important link to the history of Mendoza. A new seven-storey building was built to house six floors of guestrooms and the 2,000-square-metre Regency Casino Mendoza.
The architect of Park Hyatt Mendoza was Mario Alvarez y Asociados based in Buenos Aires, while the interior design was commissioned from Bilkey Llinas Design in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Behind its traditional façade, a modern hotel is uncovered, offering the latest in technology and comfort. The interior design maintains the architectural elements of the existing building and features contemporary design features, reflected in towering columns and the use of granite and stone with wood trim. The hotel’s art collection, exhibited in different areas, shows the work of 23 renowned local artists, including painters, sculptors and photographers, in one of Mendoza’s most important collections.
The hotel has 186 guestrooms, including 135 Park Rooms, 47 Andes Rooms and 11 Park Deluxe, two Park Suites, a Governor Suite and the luxurious Presidential Suite. The rooms are decorated in a contemporary style, equipped with fine wood furniture and soft fabrics, with attention paid to special touches reflecting the local culture. The bathrooms incorporate the latest concepts in design and elegance, with a crystal washbasin area, white marble walls and mirrors with chrome detailing.
Park Hyatt Mendoza offers banquet space with varying capacities that can be customised for meetings, social events and conferences. There are three meeting rooms, two boardrooms and a 300-square-metre ballroom that evokes the luxurious Salón de Los Espejos of the historic Plaza Hotel. The banquet rooms are equipped with the audiovisual technology required for video conferencing, as well as Internet connections via ISDN high-speed lines.
The hotel also offers a wide range of choices for dining and entertainment. Its main restaurant, Bistro M, is dominated by an imposing two-storey wine library holding a unique and comprehensive selection of the best local wines. Indeed, from 2003 to 2011, Wine Spectator magazine extended Bistro M an “Award of Excellence” for having one of the most outstanding wine lists in the world. A sophisticated and elegant ambience is created in Bistro M by the wooden floors, the show kitchen, a wood-fired oven and a distinguished menu that offers the best meats Argentina can provide, along with a wide range of Italian dishes with a regional touch.
While Grill Q – Parrilla Argentina serves a wide variety of regional food, including the classic Argentinian barbecue and empanadas, The Vines – Wine Bar & Vinoteca is a wine bar and winery featuring a special variety of labels, a tasting room and a lounge where guests can enjoy a glass of Malbec under the stars.
Las Terrazas de la Plaza is a lobby lounge where guests can enjoy good food in a casual environment on large terraces overlooking the Plaza Independencia. On the weekends, guests can also enjoy international cocktails and live music.
Kaua Club & Spa is the hotel’s treatment and relaxation centre, offering a warm atmosphere where body and soul can be pampered and awoken. There are five Oriental-themed rooms featuring all the details necessary for a unique experience of well-being and absolute pleasure. The Spa also has a Health Club with top-notch equipment, a whirlpool, a sauna, steam baths and a cold plunge pool. A wide variety of body treatments is available from a professional team trained by expert Bangkok masseurs, offering the best of Thai treatment traditions. Guests can also relax in the climate-controlled swimming pool and on the sunbathing terrace in the gardens.
The design of the three-level Regency Casino follows the decorative theme of the hotel, with a contemporary style involving the creative use of wood, mirrors and lighting. On the top floor of the Casino, visitors can find a special electronic roulette, keno and video poker room. On the ground level, the Casino offers a wide variety of slot machines and live games, such as Roulette, Black Jack, Caribbean Poker and Texas Hold ’Em Bonus, Dice and Punto y Banca tables that operate from 2:00pm to 6:00am daily. On the lower level is the Casino’s main slot machine floor, which is open daily from 10:00am to 6:00am. The Regency Casino offers a total of 656 slot machines and 22 game tables, including those located in the high bets area known as the Salón Privé. It also has an elegant bar – Ambar Living Bar – offering a huge variety of international drinks and cocktails, a selection of delicious dishes and live shows.
Park Hyatt Mendoza was named South America’s Leading Casino Resort in 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2010 at the World Travel Awards, the only such resort in the region to earn this distinction four times.
