Just in time for its 20th anniversary as a Mandarin Oriental property, the hotel underwent its most extensive renovation and has now unveiled all new guest rooms and suites.
Built in 1880, originally hosting the city’s ballroom, the Neo-Renaissance building became a hotel in 1990 and was operated by the Rafael Hotel Group before Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group took over in 2000. Mandarin Oriental, Munich rapidly established itself and nowadays represents one of the best addresses in the Bavarian capital. While offering the legendary and unpretentious Mandarin Oriental service, Mandarin Oriental, Munich additionally offers modern amenities to ensure the comfort and convenience that one would expect from a world class and modern luxury hotel.
Each of the hotel’s Each of the 48 guest rooms and 25 suites enjoys a well-orchestrated mix of styles, colours and patterns, combining furniture with historic heritage with a fresh and contemporary look and colour scheme. The art concepts can be enjoyed in each room, which feature individual mountain images by local artist Felix Rehfeld, paying tribute to Munich’s geographical location as the gateway to the Alps. The art in all suites includes a mountain massif exclusively produced for the hotel by Royal Bavarian porcelain manufacturer, Nymphenburg.
As part of the inroom amenity concept, all single-use plastic items the rooms and bathrooms have been replaced with sustainable alternatives.
With the opening of the restaurant “Matsuhisa, Munich” in November 2015, Mandarin Oriental, Munich introduced the award-winning cuisine of internationally celebrated Chef Nobuyuki (Nobu) Matsuhisa to Munich and Germany. It follows the same successful format as Matsuhisa Beverly Hills and its other exclusive dependences around the world. Offering Nobu’s renowned Japanese-Peruvian cuisine, with an emphasis on seafood, the menu of Head chef Shigeru Fujita features signature dishes such as the legendary Black Cod and Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeños, as well as traditionally prepared Sushi. Matsuhisa, Munich opens daily for dinner.
Adjacent to the spacious lobby area, The Lounge is the ideal retreat and meeting place for hotel guests. Dominating colors are gold, bright green and purple. Coffee, afternoon tea and international snacks are being served all-day with seasonally changing lunch menus. The newly instated Mandarin Cake Shop offers delicious home-made cakes and pastries by Chef Pâtissier Jana Mertens.
Particularly popular during the summer months, “Mahjong” Roof Garden on the top of the eighth floor offers breathtaking 360-degree views over the cityscape and the Alps. Mahjong is open daily from May to September.
Late into the night the Ory Bar offers a wide variety of cocktails and drinks in combination with modern variations of classic bar-food dishes. Characterized by high grade materials, a generous geometry and an avantgarde-like atmosphere, resulting in a representative elegance, the Bar succeeds to match the representative elegance of Mandarin Oriental, Munich.
On the first floor, Mandarin Oriental, Munich offers three rooms for private events and exclusive meetings for up to 150 people. Each space benefits from natural daylight, air conditioning, high speed internet and Wi-Fi. Guests can choose between different cuisines, which make the banquet offer of Mandarin Oriental, Munich very special and unique. There is the Japanese-Peruvian Matsuhisa food as well as classic international dishes. The hotel’s event offer can be combined with lunch, dinner or cocktail receptions in one of the new facilities, like Matsuhisa, Munich or The Terrace. In the course of the refurbishment of all public areas, the rooms received a distinctive new look, including modern furniture and lavish wallpapers.
The hotel’s elegantly designed fitness and wellness center (150m2) is located on the ground floor of the hotel. The fitness area houses a wide range of state-of-the art equipment from TechnoGym and a Kinesis Wall. A personal trainer is bookable on individual request through the concierge. The wellness area features a steam bath and Finnish sauna. Munich offers diverse possibilities for passionate joggers in the popular park “Englischer Garten” or along the river Isar.
