Lausanne Palace & Spa
Nestled in the quaint, French-speaking town of Lausanne, this urban-set spa offers more outdoor activities than most resorts. Diversions include golf, tennis, skiing, parasailing, waterskiing, biking, hiking and more. After all, Lausanne is home to the Olympic Museum. But this is where Olympians and weekend warriors come after the competition to relax and invigorate body and mind.
Facilities include a fitness center overlooking the lake and French Alps; an indoor pool surrounded by Roman-inspired frescoes; and an Aveda beauty spa boasting a relaxation and meditation room. A natural fusion, gourmet menu is offered in three restaurants, including Restaurant Côte Jardin which offers outside dining in the summer. The complete range of Aveda products and treatments is available, including thalassotherapy, aromatherapy, seaweed wraps, cellulite treatments, laser therapy and aesthetic medicine.
The accommodations are traditional and high ceilinged with fine wood furnishings and bright artwork. All are effectively air conditioned, and most sustain a formal look with paneled walls, period armchairs and high-quality lamps on nightstands.
The fabrics are lush and bold, and thermal taps, snazzy flat-screen TVs, complimentary high-speed Internet access, fax machines, speaker phones with data ports and voice mail, safes, minibars, bedside controls, sumptuous duvets and even panic buttons ensure plentiful (and secure) comfort.
Luxuriously thick draperies swing down from the edges of panoramic windows and effectively block out light. Most baths are in sleek black marble, and all have hair dryers, terry robes, slippers, phones, stereos, flat-screen TVs, expensive toiletries, heated towel racks and infrared heaters.
Junior suites have swankier decor and add such accents as Dutch blue pottery and fragrant fresh flowers. Rear rooms are not only quieter than those in front, but they open to modest garden- and lake-view terraces. Sixth-floor studios are the most elaborate units, with period furniture and tiny balconies with good views.
Great staff and facilities at the Lausanne Palace & Spa will make you want to return again to this property--considered to be one of the best hotels in Switzerland.
