Intercontinental Madrid
The Intercontinental Madrid is located in the heart of the Spanish capital, in the upscale area of Paseo de la Castellana, nearby the famous Prado,Thyssen Bornemisza and Reina Sofia Museums. A few minutes walking distance to the most luxury shopping area of Serrano Street and just 20 minutes drive from the international Barajas airport.
The seven story hotel includes a showplace lobby with plenty of seating under a large chandelier. It is flanked by a separate concierge and reception area whose staffers are multilingual and hospitable. A marble stairway, which was preserved from the 18th century palace and which serves as the inspiration for the décor, ascends from the lobby to the meeting space areas.
The hotels engaging centerpiece is a vast rotunda supported by a row of stately rust colored marble columns. These separate and give privacy to the restaurant and cocktail lounge which features a pianist most evenings. Roman shades block the courtyard views but provide afternoon shade in the crescent-shaped restaurant, which serves contemporary Spanish food. The art-deco bar has become a popular stop-off point for some of the area's socialites. In the summer, the garden terrace is one of the places to see and be seen as it attracts a local and stylish crowd.
Wide, soundproofed corridors lead to the fresh-looking accommodations, done in bold classic style with extravagant floor-to-ceiling window treatments, and plump duvets or thick spreads. The upholstery and carpeting are of high quality, and all are in rich hues.
Custom Regency-inspired furniture provides a deluxe traditional touch, and modern conveniences include dual-line phones with data ports, high-speed Internet access, TVs, minibars, coffeemakers, and good storage space with safes. Besides the data ports, the entire hotel has Wi-Fi available.
The bright marble baths come with magnifying mirrors, plush towels, robes, slippers, dual vanities, power showers and deluxe spa-branded toiletries. Beds are mostly kings or queens, and views take in the boulevard or patio. The Royal and Presidential Suites are fresh from upgrades that have added even more pizzazz to their opulent digs.
The cost of a room on one of the Club floors may be more expensive but well worth it. All guests on the club level are truly treated as VIPs. Everything from the service to the decor is noticeably superior, and the complimentary food and beverage service in the private lounge is, for many, worth the added cost alone (all day food presentations keep guests satiated). It is, with out a doubt, the best club level private lounge in the city. Suites (regardless of floor) benefit from Club lounge access. Room service runs round-the-clock.
