Huntley Hotel Santa Monica
The Huntley Santa Monica has partnered with ClassicTravel.com to offer some of the best rates with amenities.
The Huntley is a modern 16 story beach hotel located in Santa Monica and wedged between Brentwood, Beverly Hills and Malibu. This is not a traditional hotel and appeals more to a hip baby boomer individualist persona. Instead of hedge fund types you’re more apt to find stock brokers or film editors. Here, an air of 1960s psychedelia blends with more subdued contemporary appointments.
The attractively decorated accommodations all have oversized, padded headboards, mirrors, 42-inch plasma-screen TVs and original art. The rooms' dark-stained, angular furniture contrasts nicely against the sandy-hued soft goods, plush patterned carpeting and sheer drapes. Seashells and marine motifs give the rooms a sense of place, and the large desks with multiple-line phones, data ports, conveniently located outlets, wired and wireless Internet access and task lighting create comfort for those arriving here on business. Closets are average in size but still manage to house irons, ironing boards, safes and extra bedding.
The baths are trimmed in brightly colored marble and have trendy above-counter sinks, magnifying mirrors, scales, good toiletries and stall showers and/or deep soaking tubs. iPod docks allow guests to enjoy their favorite tunes. The pillow-top beds have high-thread-count bedding and extra pillows and duvets. The lavish suites add larger baths with TVs, spacious living areas and bedrooms. Rooms on the top floors have expansive coastal vistas that take in Santa Monica and from Malibu to Pacific Palisades. Even the top floor mountain/city-view rooms are worth requesting.
The rooftop restaurant, Penthouse, is an aptly named dining room-cum-lounge with some of the best coastal vistas in Southern California. The energetic and eclectic modern decor is the work of Thomas Schoos, the notable designer behind Justin Timberlake's L.A. hotspot Koi. All meals are served here with well-prepared New American fare at the heart of the lunch and dinner menus. The adjacent bar gets going around 10 pm and continues until 2AM. Back down on the lobby level, the relatively quiet cafe delivers diner fare in an impromptu setting. Breakfast, lunch and evening cocktails are served.
Room service is a nonstop offering here. Pets are not permitted. Twelve wheelchair-accessible rooms make this a good choice for disabled travelers.
The Huntley is a strong, independent hotel that does a good job of balancing commercial and leisure interests without the need for a pool or spa.
