Hotel Metropole Monte Carlo
The five star Metropole Hotel Monte Carlo in the Pricipality of Monaco is the epitome of understated but still very grand elegance. Staying in a former palace dating back to 1886 but updated exquisitely to a 21st Century luxury hotel is reason enough to stay here; but this luxury hotel has so much more to offer.
The long entrance drive is a striking a mini park lined with cypress trees and other exotic flora. The luxurious lobby, which is illuminated by natural light through the glass roof, is decorated in a classic but contemporary style with deep colors and comfortable chairs encouraging guests to linger. Arrivals access the reception area to the left where English-proficient staff await them graciously.
The main restaurant, with an open kitchen and celebrity chef Joel Robuchon, serves all meals from a menu featuring classic and Mediterranean cuisine. The culinary team insists that no plate contains more than three flavors at a time to heighten the palate's sense of taste. Guests can choose dishes from the menu at the pool bar, at the palm-fringed poolside lounge or sip cocktails in the refined lobby lounge. The Japanese restaurant Yoshi serves Japanese contemporary cuisine in a beautiful room with large ceiling to floor windows overlooking a traditional Japanese garden.
The accommodations are of good proportions, and their high standards make them all the more enjoyable to spend time in. Done in cream tones, the guest rooms display elegance in richly colored fabrics and dark-wood accents. Palatial fabric-covered walls coordinate well with the elaborate patterns on the richly hued spreads. Attractive Chinese blue porcelain lamps, soft carpeting and flowing swag drapery are especially noticeable. Large desks, fax lines and wireless Internet access serve the business traveler. Standard amenities run to air-conditioning, dual-line phones, TVs, minibars and double-glazed windows. Fine marble baths (improved upon with exquisite hardwood accents paired with patterned marble) provide hair dryers, robes, slippers, heated towel racks, scales, enormous shower stalls, soaking tubs and distinctive toiletries. Suites add extra lounging space, although those on the penthouse level are veritable apartments complete with sparkling chandeliers, antique accent pieces and the finest of toiletries.
The staff works diligently with a sense of customer-oriented purpose, especially since the star-studded clientele often demands it. This luxury hotel is at the highest level that one would imagine a grand European hotel to be, and especially in Monte Carlo. It is our first choice for the discriminating traveler.
