Located 10 minutes south of the center of town the Four Seasons Palm Beach is the hotel of choice for those whose taste runs to contemporary.
The U-shaped hotel has a large motor entrance where valets and bellhops greet guests. This Four Seasons' trademark of bone-on-ivory decor and devoid of saturated colors runs throughout the public areas. Six steps rise to the plush living room lounge, which is thoughtfully divided into three plushly furnished spaces: One boasts classic leopard-print carpeting and Palladian-style windows; one harbors a crackling fireplace; and the smallest of the three is a narrow library with a plasma TV and a lending library.
The award-winning, dinner-only dining room, The Restaurant at Four Seasons Palm Beach, has a dress code and an elegant decor of damask, linen and Chinese murals. The garden provides the lauded chef with exotic herbs and vegetables for enticing creations that blend southeast regional cooking with Latin American and European flavors. Every detail is attended to. For instance, female guests in dark dresses are given black napkins instead of white ones, to keep napkin lint from showing.
Four Season Palm Beach's canopied Ocean Bistro serves all meals indoors and out, and the poolside grill creates picnic favorites throughout the day: hot dogs, burgers, fish tacos and famous margaritas.
The rectilinear pool is too small for the room count, but its design and superb beach help to compensate for shortcomings. The whirlpool is kept hot. The excellent beach offers water sports, and three Har-Tru tennis courts please racquet fans. Four Seasons Palm Beach has expanded its spa, and parents appreciate the comprehensive children's programs and the babysitting services that are provided at all hours.
The comfortable and attractive accommodations at Four Seasons Palm Beach are among the nicest on this side of Miami. Priced by location, they all show custom contemporary furnishings that bode well with the rich fabrics in earth and sea tones. Among the amenities are firm mattresses, large desks, plush carpeting, excellent lighting and delicious marble-trimmed baths. Standard accoutrements are minibars, safes, Web TVs, high-speed Internet access, and full marble baths with phones, robes, shaving mirrors, scales and hair dryers. Even the furniture on the balconies displays quality.
Least expensive Garden rooms face north and south and lack ocean views. Garden Deluxe adds 45 more sq ft for a 10% increase in rates. More expensive Floridian rooms have angled views of the ocean or pool, while Tropical rooms are similar but have better views.
Premier rooms, on the second floor in the main building, have balconies facing the pool and ocean, while Premier Deluxe provide even better views from the third and fourth floors. Room service at Four Seasons Palm Beach, on call at all hours, prepares picnic lunches on request. Turndown is standard.
