Four Seasons Gresham Palace
Four Seasons Gresham Palace is an Art Nouveau masterpiece in Roosevelt Square at the foot of the iconic Szechenyi Lanchid, or ‘Chain Bridge,’ the iron bridge which spans the River Danube and serves as one of Europe’s most beautiful industrial monuments. Built in the 1900s, Four Seasons Gresham Palace was once the home to wealthy British aristocrats, and now its your turn to experience the luxury that this five star hotel has to offer. The beautiful lobby is covered in Zsolnay tiles, topped with a glass cupola that lets in a wealth of natural light, and features a stunning chandelier made of gold leaves, plus a piano bar, a comfortable lounge area, and a variety of works by modern Hungarian artists.
With high, vaulted ceilings and step-out balconies, the rooms reflect the architectural heritage of Four Seasons Gresham Palace, and offer views over the intimate interior courtyards, the Old City, or the sparkling Danube. Gold and green marble bathrooms at Four Seasons Gresham Palace are decorated in the Art Nouveau spirit, with deep soaking tubs, large vanities, and separate glass-enclosed showers. Morning coffee and access to the health club are complementary for all guests at the Four Seasons Gresham Palace.
The sleek Royal Suite at Four Seasons Gresham Palace is filled to the brim with original Art Nouveau pieces, and features a large, furnished balcony and panoramic views of The Danube, Chain Bridge, Fisherman’s Bastion, the Royal Castle, and the rolling Buda Hills in the distance. There’s also a pantry with direct corridor access for residential-style dining service, and a spacious work area. Another great suite for discerning travelers is The Tower Suite, in which the master bedroom is located on a separate level from the living area, in the dome of the hotel’s tower.
Four Seasons Gresham Palace’s restaurant, the Gresham is located on the site of a 1930s café that was once frequented by Budapest’s intelligentsia from the nearby Hungarian academy of sciences. It serves both Hungarian and international specialties, and is noted for its wonderful selection of cakes, pastries, coffees, and teas. But desert isn’t the only gourmet option here, try the roast Argentinean beef strip loin with snow peas, home fries, arugula, and parmesan shavings, served in a béarnaise sauce; or the grain mustard crusted salmon with fennel and beetroot carpaccio, served in a pink pepper corn dressing. For something more casual, try a delicious sandwich like the grilled vegetable, buffalo mozzarella, and black olive tapenade sandwich served on ciabatta bread.
Located on the top floor of Four Seasons Gresham Palace, the hotel’s spa features seven private massage and treatment rooms, plus a suite that features wet treatments and Vichy showers. There’s also a sauna, steam rooms, a whirlpool, and a fitness center. The fitness center features state of the art Techno gym, Nautilus, and Cybex exercise equipment, and certified trainers are on site to help ensure guests get the most out of their workout. The hotel also has a truly gorgeous infinity pool located on the top floor, where water spills gently and evenly over the pool’s invisible edge, where it is caught and than redirected back into the pool.
With beautiful architecture everywhere, interesting cultural attractions, and a bevy of nightlife and dining options, it’s no wonder that Budapest is sometimes known as ‘The Paris of Central Europe.’ In fact, Lonely Planet travel guide even goes as far as to say that Budapest is “More cosmopolitan than Prague, more romantic than Warsaw, and more beautiful than both…” With elegant cafes, eclectic architecture, inspiring art collections, a multitude of museums, and a lively theatre scene, Budapest is a culture lover’s dream. Four Seasons Gresham Palace is within walking distance of the Royal Palace and Castle Hill, the Parliament building, and the high end shopping of Vaci Street. Also within easy reach of the hotel are Margaret Island, the artist’s colony of Szentendre, and Lake Balaton, the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe.
