Guests arrive at Four Seasons Bali at Sayan via a meandering stone drive bringing you to a footbridge that leads to the three level spa and lobby. The setting is spectacular.
The small but chic health club at Four Seasons Bali at Sayan is the best in the area, with plenty of machines and treatments, a sauna, steam room, and trio of hot and cold whirlpools with bucolic views. Shopping is at a small gift shop, the library lends CDs, DVDs and books, and the small meeting room seats 30.
Accommodations at Four Seasons Bali at Sayan are grouped into suites and villas. Two wings of suites extending from the main building mimic the contours of the adjacent cliff. They are reached through dark corridors that run past stone monoliths and a good collection of traditional Indonesian and abstract Western art. Downstairs, sitting rooms show stone and teak floors, comfortable furniture, small desks, genuine antiques, reproductions, dual-line phones, data ports, stereos, large TVs, minibars, half-baths and small balconies. Bedrooms below come with king beds, elegant weavings, second phones and TVs. Large furnished terraces open to rice paddies.
The sumptuous baths at Four Seasons Bali at Sayan provide deep terrazzo tubs, stall showers, dual basins, walk-in closets, ceiling fans, safes, scales, robes, fragrant towels and even small waterfalls. Higher units are preferable. Low-end Terrace Suites are narrow duplexes with two-story windows. Wider, single-story Sayan Suites add DVD players and lovely balcony daybeds, but the sitting areas are not as comfortable as those in the duplexes. Villas, clustered along winding paths on the valley floor, are exquisite but far from the hotel's public areas. From thatched-roof gardens and sitting areas, stairs lead down to open-air sitting rooms with pools, creative lighting, period furniture and bamboo curtains. Villa baths have both indoor and outdoor showers. Choose rooms fronting the river or its tributary for views of bathing natives and working farmers.
