The Fairmont Scottsdale

There are luxury hotels in the desert and then there is The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. Surrounded by sunwashed stone and bright green cottonwoods, the Fairmont Scottsdale is like a lush oasis in the Arizona desert, beckoning to travelers from far and wide.

Winter temperatures in Scottsdale range from the high 30's to the 60's.  All of the outdoor areas have large space heaters and tables can become firepits instantly.  It's worth mentioning that the dry air makes colder temperatures feel warmer in the desert.  During the day you never perspire in the sun so outdoor activites are a lot more fun.

Summer daytime temperatures can be hot but the lower room rates and amenities make it a very attractive place to be.  The ther is always the Willow Stream Spa, which Conde Nast Traveler ranked as one of the best spas in North America will confirm that it does.  The Willow Stream Spa really lives up to its source of inspiration- Havasupai, an oasis hidden deep within the Grand Canyon.  After some rejuvenating and individualistic treatment at the spa, enjoy the Oasis rooftop pool and private cabanas under a cloudless cobalt sky.  Than, follow the soothing sounds of flowing water to the Willow Stream's unique waterfall feature.  There's also a steam room and sauna, a eucalyptus inhalation room, and even a cold plunge pool.  All outdoor pools are open 24/7.

Unique among all other suites in the Fairmont empire, The Casa Dorada ('Golden House') is something of a luxury hotel within a luxury hotel.  This 3,700 square foot house has its own private swimming pool, a balcony, a media room complete with reclining theatre-style chairs and a 72' plasma screen TV, a jacuzzi, and a patio with a built in barbecue.  Located in a secluded enclave adjacent to but seperate from the other Fairmont Gold Rooms, The Casa Dorada offers guests  privacy and exclusivity while still providing them with easy access to all of the Fairmont amenities.

While the Casa Dorada is certainly the highlight of the hotel's many suites, each and every accomodation serves its purpose as a lavish living quarters where you can enjoy your stay.  All rooms throughout the Fairmont Scottsdale have terraceswet barsrefreshment centers, and oversized luxury bathrooms.  The decor features the subtle undertones and earthy accents of the American southwest.

Just when you begin to think that the Fairmont Scotsdale couldn't possibly add anything else to make it even more appealing, you find out about its two 18-hole championship-quality golf courses, one of which is the annual home of the PGA Tour's FBR Open.

If your golf game isn't up to par, there are many other attractive activities to take part in.  Take in the views of the Sonoran Desert on a Jeep or Hummer tour where you'll ride through untouched desert wilderness.  Or get an even better vantage point from a hot air balloon, where you will not only get a bird's eye view of the brilliant desert landscape, but also unforgettable memories of the sunrise or sunset (Not to mention some celebratory refreshments upon landing!).  Check out Taliessin West, renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright's personal residence and architectural school, crafted entirely from local desert materials.  If you're still up for more after all this, The Grand Canyon and the Phoenix Zoo are both nearby.  This beautiful oasis in the Arizona desert is no mirage- its one of the finest resorts in both the southwest and in the Fairmont family.
