Cavallo Point
Cavallo Point, a renovated century old Army fort, is set in the Golden Gate National Park and overlooks the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. The setting is dramatic to say the least. The seventeen Colonial Revival buildings containing 68 rooms in former officers quarters have been beautifully restored. There are an additional 74 rooms in new buildings on the hillside behind. The older rooms have a decidingly special charm, some with gas fireplaces, however the new ones are larger and offer unparalled views. All rooms have organic bedding, flat-panel TVs, Wi-Fi and original art.
The hotel offers an easy opportunity to exlore nature, experience Northern California culture, and even hike the Marin Headlands or beach comb along the Pacific. All this is a mere 5 miles from San Francisco.
The on-site restaurant, Murray Circle, specializes in California-French cuisine by chef Joseph Humphrey, previously from the Meadowood Resort in Napa Valley.
Resort-like offerings include a "basking" pool heated to 104 degrees F, yoga sessions in a century-old chapel, bikes for use on rides to Sausalito or San Francisco, and an 11,000-sq-ft Healing Arts Center and Spa that offers treatments and wellness classes.
