Ca' Sagredo Hotel

The Ca’Sagredo is Hotel is a luxury hotel in Venice like no other.  Dating back to a 15th-century private palazzo, Ca’ Sagredo is not only historic but is filled with great art.  It has also been declared a National Monument.  Staying here feels much like it probably did 500 years ago except now all of the modern conveniences the luxury traveler expects are in place.

Ca'Sagredo is boutique in the number of rooms but there is nothing boutique about the size of the guest rooms and public areas which are grand, grand and grand.  The service is personalized and grand as well.
The prominent Sagredo family were art lovers during the 18th century who lovingly adorned their residence with no expense spared. Along with 18th-century exterior changes, Sagredo added a host of other interior changes including much of the still-intact stucco work by Strazio and MazettiTirali was the architect of the property's famous stairs with its statue of Putto. Longhi painted frescoes above and around it in 1734 such as "Fall of the Giants." Gorgeous chandeliers are of Venetian glass. Much of the original 15th-century intricate marble flooring was restored seven years ago. Even in anticipation of his death, Sagredo dictated in his will strict architectural plans for future renovation, but the palace actually remains much as it was during his life.

Among the myriad areas of interest is the Portego, a wide corridor with refined stucco work and huge paintings, which leads to many rooms. Windows are used to special effect here to create atmospheric lighting from the lagoon. The Ballroom is the height of two floors with trompe l'oeil architectural frescoes. The Sala de Musica is covered, ceilings and walls, with frescoes attributed to Dizani. The chandeliers are framed in gold leaf and the floor proudly displays the family coat of arms. This room, still used for concerts, is also noted for excellent acoustics. There is a small secret door to a small alcove, originally used for illicit romantic encounters, which has had its contents moved to the Metropolitan Museum in New York City.

The Sala della Biblioteca, connected to a splendid suite connected by hidden ladders, is in white wood and gold and contains the Sagredo collection of books. Ca'Sagredo Hotel is, very literally, a museum. Reception is in keeping with the dignity of the surroundings, and the staff is clearly proud of the treasure they oversee.
L'Alcova Restaurant with Venetian and regional Italian seafood has lovely views to enhance the candlelight dinner. An alfresco terrace also provides spectacular views. Bar L'Incontro is small and open to locals. Antique pink and pearl gray were the official colors of the Sagredo family, and these are reflected in the decor of the two breakfast rooms. There is a Tiepolo ceiling fresco in the second breakfast room.

The fitness center is small, but houses high-quality equipment. There is no pool or whirlpool.

The 42 guest rooms of Ca’Sagredo  especially suites and junior suites, promise a stay immersed in layers of history and extraordinary Venetian art. Prestige and Premier rooms are quite large and all have some form of attractive view which could be the Grand Canal, Campo Santa Sofia, Ca'D'Oro or the Rialto Market. Guests can expect various combinations of Venetian color schemes, fine textiles, period furniture, stucco work, and other original art. Flat-screen TVs are in all rooms. Excellent hair dryers, plush robes and slippers, minibars, air conditioning, safes, desks and easy chairs are in all accommodations. Wireless and high-speed Internet is available for a charge and there are direct-dial phones in room and bath. Most lovely marble baths have shower and tub, bidet, and some incorporate a TV in the mirror.

The suites of Ca’Sagredo are each particular in their own way.  The Grand Prestige Suite has a fabulous view of the Grand Canal on a full wall through ancient window panes. Its wooden floors are inlaid, and the headboard is blue velvet surrounded by gilt gold. The 1890-sq-m Presidential Suite guests get special, personalized amenities upon arrival along with the dramatic and glamorous setting and view.

The Grand Canal Suite, the former library of the Sagredo family, probably, is the most incredible of all in terms of fascinating history and extraordinary architectural detail. The Sebastiani Ricci Suite Prestige contains original artwork by Ricci. The Arts Suite, formerly a club room, is dedicated to painting, sculpture, music and architecture. The Stucco Suite features animals and mythological figures in pastel hues. The Four Windows Suite, in lovely blue hues, has views of the Grand Canal, Ca' Doro, the Rialto Market, and gondolas.

Room service is available with limited hours. Two handicapped rooms are available. Small pets are welcomed. Rooms are all smoke-free.
For guests desiring to experience the life of Venetian nobility, this is the place.
