Belvedere Hotel
This hotel is the quintessential Mykonos chic. It’s location near the towns pedestrian zone and within a 10-minute walk from the renowned nightlife and shopping of Mykonos, and overlooking the island's famous windmills, make it hard to beat. Offering an attractive poolside setting, the hotel has changed little but for its dining options. It began life as a mansion in 1850 and became a hotel in 1995. It now spreads over seven houses located among landscaped gardens.
The charming reception area displays cool white stone floors, wood ceilings, art, sturdy local furniture, high-quality fabrics and fresh flowers. The trendy and popular chrome-accented bar downstairs blares rock and dance tunes all day, but classical music soothes the nerves most evenings. The Internet corner pleases Web surfers, and the cozy DVD theater offers guests a movie library with more than 300 titles to choose from.
The breezy main restaurant proffers the sophisticated modern Japanese cuisine of renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa. His excellent sushi and creative dishes are served on the pool terrace among beautifully landscaped gardens and stunning views of the sea and the sunset. The wine cellar holds more than 5,000 bottles and is available for tastings and small private functions. Light fare is served by the pool throughout the day to hotel guests taking advantage of the cozy loungers and daybeds.
The upgraded health facilities now encompass a small gym, a steam room, whirlpool, and a spa offering treatments such as hydrotherapy, hot sugar body scrub, warm algae wrap, aromatherapy hammam and several massages. Parking is limited but free, and wireless Internet access is available throughout the premises.
The tasteful guest rooms are individually styled with traditional furniture, solid-color fabrics, and floors of Dionysian marble. The amenities include cordless phones with voice mail, data ports, flat-screen TVs, CD players, minibars, and large marble and tile baths with luxuriant toiletries and good shelf space. Some of the rooms called ‘the new generation rooms’ and the common bars and restaurants of the hotel have been renovated and redesigned by famous NY based architects the Rockwell Group.
The staff is as handsome and savvy as many of the guests. Americans make up half the clientele at this lively year-round hideaway.
