Hotel Bayerischer Hof
There is something special about a family owned hotel. Maybe it’s the pride that family members pass on from generation to generation. Hotel Bayerischer Hof has been with the same family for the last century. The location close to the famed Marienplatz and equally close to the most exclusive shops in Munich helps to attract a stylish and sophisticated clientele. Every town has one hotel where people go to see and be seen and the Hotel Bayerischer Hof is that place in Munich. It is lively all the time.
The central feature of the property is its recently renovated garden-court lounge. The entrance space is dwarfed by the huge chandelier delicately hanging above. Locals have made the afternoon tea a popular one and tables are not easy to find.
Business types are more likely to retire to the mirrored mezzanine lounge reached via spiraling staircase, where a second bar, piano tunes and a host of international newspapers await. Excellent food is served in the Garden Restaurant, decorated in a Mediterranean style with opulent floral arrangements, potted palm and arched windows. The light menu matches the airy setting, which includes a delightful terrace for dining.
The Palais Keller is more down-to-earth, a cross-vaulted cellar with Bavarian specialties, including breads and pretzels fresh from the hotel's bakery. Trader Vic's is still going strong, its famed pupus and umbrellaed polychromatic drinks are an exotic contrast to the Spatenbrau and bratwurst in the cellar.
The breakfast room not only provides a great European breakfast but a start to the day with a beautiful view of the Cathedral. After a hectic day of sightseeing, shopping or doing business the Hotel Bayerischer Hof wants you to be entertained and entertain they do. There is the Blue Spa Bar, Falk's Bar, Menehune Bar, the Nightclub Bar and the Doggy Bar. There is even a basement theatre.
If working out is your thing the health club is excellent and includes a pool which is in a garden under a retractable roof. The spa is right out of a design magazine and, unlike the more traditional feeling of the hotel, has smooth lines, dark woods and a sleek bar at the entrance.
Sitting on the outdoor terrace is great even in the winter, thanks to the cozy fire pit.
Accommodations come in five styles: English, Bavarian rustic, African colonial, designer modern and traditional pastel. All have phones, TVs with Internet access, concealed minibars, plush duvets topping firm beds, and paneled or marble baths with phones, hair dryers, WCs and top-grade fixtures.
Exterior rooms are properly double-glazed, and courtyard units are even quieter. The Bavarian-style studios are particularly beautiful, with lavish ceilings and woodwork, authentic antique furnishings, carved four-posters and paneled baths. The 45 themed suites boast whirlpool tubs.
Room service is offered at all hours, and the front desk staff aims to please. Turndown service arrives nightly. Laundry service and both smoke-free and wheelchair accessible rooms are likewise available. Security includes surveillance, 24-hour staffing and key card entrances to rooms.
With its continuously improving facilities and nearly two-to-one staff-to-guest ratio, Hotel Bayerischer Hof is one of the best and its reputation precedes itself throughout the city. Regular luxury hotel guests will feel at home.
