Amanyara
Located at Northwest point on the island of Providenciales or Provo as it is locally referred to, Amanyara (peaceful place) is nestled on the tip of a 2,025 hectare (5,000 acre) nature and wildlife reserve, with the widely-acclaimed reefs of the Northwest Point Marine Park just offshore. The resort's name derives from 'aman,' the Sanskrit word for peace, and 'yara' the word for place in the language of the Arawak Indians, one of the region's indigenous peoples. The resort's isolated position is pristine and its beauty and tranquillity is well removed from much of the development of the island. Transfer to the resort is along a narrow coastal road that rises to a hill and then falls away into a flat plain covered with native bush and stunted trees.
Entry to the resort is through a large reception pavilion that opens onto a grand formal reflecting pond that is landscaped with mature trees. This water feature is framed on one side by the Library and Boutique, and opposite, by the Dining Room and terrace which enjoys sweeping views of the beach.
All 40 timber shingled pavilions are identical in layout and design and fall into three categories based on their location and views: Pond Pavilions, Ocean Pavilions and Beach Pavilions. Arrival to a pavilion is by an entrance terrace that houses two daybeds. Sliding glass doors open to reveal the room interior, a central king-sized bed behind which sits a writing desk, chair and beyond a cabinet that contains a personal bar with refreshments and a safe. Positioned in the corners of the room are a reading chair with footstool and an entertainment console housing a television with DVD player and surround sound system. Accessed from this bedroom and living room are an additional two terraces. The bathroom are is separated from the room by a decorative wooden screen and features an elegant free-standing bathtub with an adjacent ottoman.
The Villas are comprised of three bedroom pavalions that are located overlooking one of the resort's ponds. The bedroom pavilions are centered around a swimming pool and adjacent are two pavilions dedicated for lounging and dining. Each Villa is staffed with maids and a golf cart is provided for transportation within the resort.
The cuisine on offer in The Dining Room provides a selection of Asian and Mediterranean fare with an emphasis on local seafood. Beyond the Dining Room and leading to the swimming pool is the Lounge which includes a central service bar with its unique feature being the number of oversized lounging day beds on the perimeter of the lounge. Located on a dune above the southern end of the sweeping white sand beach is the Beach Club, providing an informal dining venue throughout the day. The Beach Club offers an intimate and informal area for beach barbeques in the evenings.
The pool is located within an expansive terrace that provides uninterrupted views of the ocean. There are two lounge pavilions on either end from which shallow entries to the pool also provide for water lounging. A third lounge pavilion is located beyond the pool and closer to the oceanfront. Pairs of sun lounges are positioned along the timber deck and an outdoor shower is provided. The Fitness Centre includes a fully equipped gymnasium and adjacent, two flood-lit tennis courts. Activities include scuba diving, beach watersports, snorkelling, fishing and spa treatments provided by Amanyara's team of skilled therapists.
