Amanusa

Amanusa (which means “peaceful isle”) enjoys a commanding position on a garden hillside in southern Bali just above the Bali Golf and Country Club. Views run from the adjacent Indian Ocean shoreline to sacred Mount Agung that dominates the far horizon on a clear day. The entrance to the lobby is a colonnaded open-air hall lined with baskets of white tuberoses. Framing the foyer is a teak sculpture illustrating scenes from the Ramayana, one of the two great epic poems of India.

Amanusa has 35 thatched-roof suites linked by paved walkways and set behind foliage and mossy paras stone walls for added privacy. All suites have four-poster beds and round tables for private dining, a sunken indoor bath, outdoor shower, a garden courtyard and a terrace with a spacious canopied day bed. Eight suites have private swimming pools and a spacious terrace.

The Terrace offers sweeping views of Bali, embracing the golf course, the Indian Ocean, Nusa Dua and the Bukit, which is Bali’s southern peninsula. During the day it is open for breakfast and lunch, serving a variety of Asian and Continental dishes, while in the evenings it offers a range of Indonesian and Thai dishes. Just below, the Restaurant specialises in Mediterranean cuisine, which is served in an elegant room with high ceilings or in the outdoor courtyard surrounded by flowering frangipani trees which overlook the pool.

The Beach Club is located on the beachfront of the Bali Golf and Country Club. The Club consists of ten bales, each with two sun loungers. Refreshments, light meals, showers and washrooms are provided. The sand beach is one of Bali's best and is fringed by a coral reef. Snorkelling equipment and kayaks are available. The Beach Club is also the setting for candlelit barbecues, and sunrise breakfasts is located on the beachfront of the Bali Golf and Country Club. Refreshments, light meals, showers and washrooms are provided.

The large 24m blue pool is bordered by a bougainvillea-covered trellis, flowering frangipani trees and a high paras-stone wall. Amanusa's two, all-weather tennis courts are floodlit for evening play. A bale is located between the courts for shady breaks of iced chrysanthemum tea and refreshments. The fairways of the Bali Golf and Country Club lie just below the resort.

Amanusa's resident masseuses mix traditional Balinese massage with Swedish massage and acupressure. Massage is available in the privacy of your suite, in the specially-designated massage suite or on one of the Beach bales. Beauty treatments using 100% natural organic products unique to Aman include facials, pedicures and manicures. Amanusa's Reiki master is on hand to redress any energy imbalances and a reflexologist is available once a week.

Weddings at the Amanusa

A wedding in Bali is an absolute treat for the senses, and especially so at Amanusa. Imagine sweeping views, a gentle breeze and the slowly setting sun. Graceful Balinese flower girls in traditional dress are accompanied by the delicate sounds of the rindik gamelan playing in the distance. And everywhere the scent of tuberoses and sedap malam ‘exquisite evening’ flower hangs in the air. Amanusa is the epitome of an elegant and private setting for a special celebration with family and friends.

Amanusa provides an array of venues for wedding ceremonies depending on the number of guests. For smaller parties, choose between a garden setting in the hotel grounds, the privacy of a suite with a private pool, or the beach for a more relaxed atmosphere. For ceremonies with up to 30 guests, the Main Bar is the ideal location. Elevated to take advantage of the sweeping views and to catch the cooling ocean breeze, the Main Bar is private, and exclusive use is ensured for wedding ceremonies. For larger parties, Amanusa offers the open-air Terrace, the romance of the Restaurant, the elegance of the Courtyard or even the gracious Lobby.

Following the ceremony, smaller parties may continue in the Bar. Larger parties may wish to move to the Colonnade adjacent to the swimming pool. Both venues are best at dusk and a choice of canapés and refreshments may be offered. For a wedding with a distinctive Balinese flavour, traditional music and dance can be arranged.

For dinner, the most private setting is in the courtyard of the Restaurant. An outdoor setting, framed by towering stone walls, it provides an intimate space that overlooks the grand swimming pool and is, in effect, removed from the public areas of the hotel. Seating for up to 100 guests can be provided. Alternatively, for smaller parties of up to 40 guests, The Restaurant with its lofty ceiling or the open-air Terrace can be used. Simple traditional decorations of umbul-umbul and baskets of tuberoses lend an air of elegance and can be fine-tuned to your specific requirements.

The orchestration of a legal wedding is possible in Bali. Referral to wedding agents can be organised through the hotel. Advance notice of wedding arrangements is required by the agents, as application to the appropriate Government Offices and Consular Services for the legal formalities will require time.  On the day of the wedding, the Magistrate and the Religious Minister will be present. The ceremony will last around 30 minutes with declaration of intent and the exchanging of vows. Two independent witnesses are required; these can be arranged with the wedding agent if friends of the wedding couple are not present.

For non-legally binding weddings, a priest can be arranged through the resort. This does not require legal procedures however, advance notice is essential in order to make arrangements for a local Protestant priest. Alternatively, a Balinese Wedding blessing can be arranged with a local Balinese priest. Advance notice is also essential in order to make arrangements with the priest and with the preparation of offerings.
