51 Buckingham Gate - A Taj Hotel
If you want to be close to Buckingham Palace and feel like you live in London then 51 Buckingham Gate is for you. The seven story hotel has a residential feel, is 300 meters from the Palace and close to St. James Park. It is also close to Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and an hour’s drive from Heathrow airport.
This luxury boutique property has 86 elegant suites from one to five bedrooms. Each feature a separate living room, fully-equipped kitchens and luxurious bathrooms. The bright, spacious modern suites are decorated in florid chintz and Chippendale. American and top European designer furnishings are featured in the rooms, which also have pastel color schemes, original art, plush carpeting and elaborate floral arrangements. The unique Jaguar Suite is a collaboration between Taj Hotels and Jaguar. The sleek design of the 1,832 square foot, two bedroom suite was overseen by Jaguar’s in-house Design Director, Ian Callum. It features specially commissioned artwork and intriguing special design features.
All the suites also feature high-tech gadgetry including two dual-line speakerphones, voice mail, one to three TVs (flat-screen models are now in all units), DVD and CD players (music and movie discs are provided free of charge at reception), iPod docks, fax machines, safes, thermostats, large closets, and flashy stainless-steel kitchenettes or kitchens with the works. Even the studios have dishwashers, but guests can leave the dishes for the housekeepers, who make the rounds twice daily. The entire facility is Wi-Fi enabled. The baths, most with stall showers and separate tubs, are as stylish as the rooms, with exceptional tile work and marble, fashionable above-counter sinks, magnifying mirrors, robes, slippers, hair dryers and toiletries aplenty.
The ambience throughout the public areas is glamorous, residential and very contemporary. Sit-down reception speaks of deluxe standards, and the lobbies marble and subdued modern furnishings set an elegant tone for arrivals. There is a lounge with a fireplace and a small library-style café/bar where cocktails and light food are served.
Dining facilities include Bistro 51, offering classic French and British signature dishes; Bank Westminster and Zander Bar, serving classic British dishes with a modern twist; The Library, offering newspapers and periodicals, organic breakfast, coffee, tea, light refreshments and cocktails. The Michelin star Quilon restaurant specializes in cuisine from the south-west coast of India.
The Spa brings a touch of Paris to London, offering luxurious Anne Semonin pampering in an exclusive setting. Spa at 51 has introduced the new natural men’s skincare range, Osmium for Men, featuring a range of signature face and body treatments.
