The JW Marriott Essex House
To say the JW Marriott Essex House is in a great location is an understatement. This five-star hotel sits on Central Park South and is opposite Central Park. It’s not just the world famous park that’s at your doorstep. You’re walking distance to some of New York’s most celebrated dining spots as well as the glamour of shopping on Fifth and Madison Avenue. If jogging is your thing there is simply no better location. If you prefer to bike through the park, the Essex provides bikes to it's guests on a complimentary basis.
The Essex House first opened its doors for business in 1931, and recently became even more spectacular when it received a $90 million renovation. The renovation brings The Essex House back to its art deco splendor but now with all the modern accoutrements. The lobby is impressive with its white leather banquettes, crystal beaded table lamps with chrome accents. Cream colored leather sofas with burgundy and amethyst colored pillows continue to create an ambiance like no other hotel in the area. There are always guests sitting here having a cocktail or tea while admiring the views of Central Park.
The newly-renovated guestrooms at The Essex House are awash with stylish touches, like custom-designed furniture with alligator-print leather accents and honey-toned wood veneers; and sleek cabinetry units with leather-wrapped handles. The bathrooms contain a jewel-toned, amber-colored glass vessel sink, while the bed’s boasts an art-infused headboard with mood lighting. The Central Park View guestrooms have many of these same features but are done in a more art-deco fashion, and include an in-room, standing telescope which is perfect for viewing the gorgeous Central Park scenery below. Accommodations overlook either peaceful interior views of the hotel’s courtyard, spectacular views of Central Park, or vistas of Manhattan’s busy streets bustling with energy.
At The Essex House’s restaurant, South Gate, veteran NYC chef Kerry Heffernan of Eleven Madison fame, serves up fresh, seasonally inspired Modern American Cuisine. The only thing as great as the food is the striking interior, which was dreamed up by renowned interior designer Tony Chi. You’ll have to see it for yourself, but New York Magazine described it as “a tall, mosque-like space, replete with a bar made of polished orange travertine, walls covered with glittering angled mirrors, and floor-to-ceiling windows in the front of the room, offering a classic perspective of The Park.” The bar at cocktail hour has a special "buzz" of it's own and is quintessential New York.
The Spa at Essex House is a relaxing haven of tranquility that seems a world away from the hustle and bustle of New York City. It offers a full range of Sodashi services (its also the only spa in New York that features Sodashi products), such as facials, body wraps, scrubs, manicures, pedicures, and a wide array of massage therapies which utilize extracts from the purest and highest grade essential oils. There’s also a spa suite with a soaking tub, steam room, and sauna. The tastefully designed fitness room is open 24 hours a day and is contains state of the art strength training and cardiovascular equipment. Each cardiovascular machine is equipped with a personal 13” Sharp Aquos LCD TV.
Room service runs 24/7. The staff is professional, courteous and on top of it all.
